Senior’s Week in Alberta is June 3 – 9. It has been recognized since 1986 to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions seniors make to enhance the quality of life in Alberta.

Locally, Senior’s Week is being celebrated with a senior’s event at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre in Byemoor on June 4 at 1 p.m.

All seniors are invited to attend. There will be cards, visiting, coffee, a fruit tray supplied by the County of Stettler, as well as other goodies.

The annual Scapa Strawberry Tea is on Monday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at the Scapa Hall.

Everyone is welcome and admission is by donation. Come and enjoy some delightful strawberry desserts.

Blake and Joyce Clausen, long-time residents of the community, have sold their farm and are having a farm sale on Saturday, June 8 starting at 11 a.m. at their farm north of Byemoor.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Ruth Mattheis who passed away on May 10 in Calgary at the age of 90 years. Ruth and her husband Edwin Mattheis, who passed away on Sept. 10, 2023, had two children Melanie and Aaron. A graveside service was held for her at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Scapa on May 24 and was followed by a fellowship luncheon at the Scapa Hall.

Byemoor 4-H Beef Club members had a very successful achievement day at the Stettler District 4-H Show and Sale held in Stettler on May 20 -21.

They swept many major awards, including Grand Champion Steer – Tulsa Smith, Grand Champion Pen of Five – Byemoor Club, Best Stall Display – Byemoor Club, Intermediate Award of Excellence – Alerie Sorensen, Reserve Grand Champion Carcass Steer – Brielle Sorensen.

Champion Junior Team Grooming – Tulsa Smith and Brielle Sorensen.

Champion Junior Showmanship – Tulsa Smith, Reserve Champion Junior Showmanship – Cole Charbonneau, Champion Intermediate Showmanship – Rylee Charbonneau, Reserve Senior Showmanship – Addison Charbonneau.

At the Heifer Show, Rylee Charbonneau won Grand Champion Herd and Addison Charbonneau won Reserve Grand Champion Over-all Female. As well, Reserve Grand Champion Yearling – Addison Charbonneau, Grand Champion Two-Year-Old Pair – Addison Charbonneau, Grand Champion Three-Year-Old Pair – Rylee Charbonneau and Reserve Grand Champion Three-Year-Old Pair – Alerie Sorensen.

First Junior Judging – Tulsa Smith, Reserve Junior Judging – Cole Charbonneau, First Senior Judging – Addison Charbonneau,

Best Kept Junior Records – Brielle Sorensen, Reserve Junior Records – Tulsa Smith, Best Kept Intermediate Records – Alerie Sorensen.

Most Dedicated member of the Byemoor club – Jayda Stirling.

The 4-H Cleavers had their show on the first day as well.

Although these youngsters aren’t in competition yet, they got introduced to the 4-H program and got to learn and enjoy the 4-H experience, while showing baby calves.

All members did extremely well with their projects, having them well fed and fitted and worked hard to present them well. Congratulations to all on a job well done.

Byemoor 4-H members you were impressive — well done, Byemoor!

The Byemoor 4-H Beef Club was also celebrating its 70th Anniversary and had a display of memorabilia and many photos from years gone by, that brought back memories.

A couple of the local ball teams held their home openers last week in Byemoor.

The Endmoor Gophers Coach-Pitch played against Delia and the Endmoor Badgers U9 team played Drumheller.

Congratulations to all the graduates in the J. C. Charyk Graduating Class of 2024 in Hanna on Friday, May 24.

Graduates of local interest include Jorgie Campbell, granddaughter of Lyle Knowles, Abby Kingcott and Jaxon Kingcott, twin granddaughter and grandson of Gordy and Roxy Gallagher and Grace Scheler, granddaughter of Ron and Marguerite Brown.

Best of luck wishes are extended to all the graduates in their future endeavours.
