Stettler Board of Trade announces 2024 parade marshal

BOT 2024 parade marshal has deep roots in the community

The Stettler Regional Board of Trade (BOT)announced on May 28 that an Honourary Parade Marshal had been selected for the 15th Annual Steel Wheel Stampede.

When the Steel Wheel Stampede takes place at 11 a.m. on June 8, local business owner and community supporter Bernie Jackson will be leading the way.

"Bernie Jackson is a ball of positive energy and a huge asset to the Stettler community," said Coralie Cherewko, the BOT project manager.

"Bernie is always willing to go the extra mile for organizations, sports groups, schools, festivals, and events."

Jackson grew up in the Stettler area, being born in the Stettler hospital and then attending elementary school in Erskine before returning to Stettler Composite School for high school.

After school, Jackson moved to Red Deer for a short time before home called her back. She returned to Stettler, first working for the Stettler Independent as an Off-Set Press Press Operator.

Jackson also spent time working for AGT and as a cook's assistant at Heart Haven Lodge.

Marrying high school sweetheart Donnie Jackson, the couple took over the family farm in 1988 and raised three children, Christine, Anthony, and Tyler.

In 1996, up for a new challenge, the Jacksons bought Wells Furniture, turning it into a "staple of the Stettler community."

"Bernie’s heart is vast, there is no organization or cause that she will not undertake and strive to help," said Cherewko in the media release announcing Jackson as parade marshal.

"From donations to selling tickets to promoting and participating in events, you’d have a hard time finding an organization, group or individual who hasn’t been touched by Bernie’s kindness and support.

She is a true role model of the phrase 'it takes a community to raise a child” and embodies the 'Heart of Alberta' spirit that Stettler is known for.

The parade will begin from the Rotary Spray Park at 11 a.m. and a map can be found at
